How to secure your password

"Did you know that 40% of all passwords appear in the top 100 list of worst passwords?
Did you know that 71% of all passwords appear in the top 500 list of worst passwords?"

Want to know how people get hacked:

"On the database a user's information is listed as such:
username:hash:salt
A salt is basically a value that is added to the password, and then encrypted into a hash."
Basically what people do, is they decrypt the hashes into the original form again. So if your password has less hashes, the easier it is to crack it.

How to avoid being hacked: 
Avoid keyboard tricks such as QWERTY: some examples are 1q2w3e4r5t, 1a2s3d4f (These are almost INSTANTANEOUSLY hacked!

Avoid Single or compound words: Some examples are Dog, cat, apples, oranges, firetruck, superman

Avoid passwords that include a word +123: Some examples are Awesome123, Hilarious123, Carrot123

Avoid using passwords that include single numbers: Some examples are 0528(The month and day of your birthday and/or year), 5462317 ( a bunch of random numbers), 51211 (dates that are important to you)

Avoid using passwords that include replacing 0's with o's or the other way around: such as awes0me, hell0, no0b

I have suggest this a few times to people, but people think im trying to steal their accs. TRUST ME IM NOT. You can go to any site you would like to do this. I am going to give a step by step tutorial on how to see how easily your password can be cracked. IT DOESNT MATTER IF IT IS THE SAME FROM PRS06 OR NOT! YOU CAN STILL BE HACKED!


Step 1. Go on www.google.com and type in "how secure is my password"



Step 2. Pick a site of your choice ( i suggest using the top one, its the one i use, and its well trusted/known)



As you can see, this is a VERY bad and easily crackable password. I simply just type in "dog" and it takes not even a second to crack it. Simple/common words can be cracked very easily. EVEN a series of numbers is very easy to crack! So if you have your birthday, i suggest changing it ASAP.

Here is an example of a VERY good password:



This is one of my pass'es that i actully take advantage of with a macro key. I do not memorize this password for it is way to complicated. This is a series of numbers/letters both lowercase and capitalized. This is a very hard to crack password and i believe if ANYONE has a macro key, i suggest using it.

Step 3. (the most important)

CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD! You can do this by simply going to Profile>Account Settings> and type in your new pass into the "Choose Password" section



Now before you guys say, oh this is not true, just check for trojans and don't use the same passwords on sites. This isn't true. Most cases people don't get passwords stolen from trojans, but from hacks. Passwords DO get hacked and for you guys to avoid them, you need to stop using easy passwords to hack. Its only making it easieron them.

Earlier today Bpeter got hacked for the second time, and i asked how. He said he didn't know and i knew exactly how he got hacked again. I suggested for him to try this method and he did. He later came back saying his password from before took not even a second to crack... My point was proven. He later came back saying he checked his new password, and it now takes someone 87 MILLION years to crack it. He created a nice and sturdy password.

So i suggest everyone check their current passwords, and see how long it would take for a hacker to crack it.
You will all be thankful in the end. Take note that you guys DO NOT have to use this site, this was just an example. I am in no way trying to steal your guys's accounts, just help you guys.

Howsecureismypassword.net doesn't use a dictionary attack, it just counts from 0-zzz (onward to the length of the password) with numbers being their first variable and letters then second going from uppercase to lower case. Very inefficient method of doing so and hasn't been used productively since the mid 90's. The best dictionary attacks (though their data cost thousands of dollars to buy) contains almost ever used password from every server that has ever had leaked logs, normally you only try the method howsecureismypassword.net uses for the first 5-7 characters, after that you go to the dictionary attacks.

99/100 times dictionary attacks have worked in my past and with them constantly being updated as the world changes and the general password structure changes it's honestly getting to a rarity that a dictionary attack wont get in.

You really don't need a a ridiculous password that you are unable to memorize imho. You could really just throw a bunch of words together with some symbols and numbers in the middle of them or something, and it would be easy to remember and hard to crack, by dictionary or otherwise.

They could take your IP, with your IP there is a lot of different things they could do. I'm not saying that they are, I'm just stating that websites could do it.
